Avoid domain pricing traps

How to compare registrar prices over time

Registration is only the entry cost. A registrar for a long-term project should also be compared on renewals, transfers, required fees, and account security.

Registrar Comparison
01 / REGISTER

Confirm that the domain is available

Search a complete domain name so a generic TLD price is not mistaken for a quote for that specific name. Registered and premium domains may not use the standard registration price.

02 / RENEW

Renewal price determines long-term cost

After the first-year promotion, the regular renewal price usually applies. TLDScope estimates 3-year and 5-year ownership from the first-year amount plus later renewals.

03 / VERIFY

Verify transfer prices and required fees

ICANN fees, taxes, membership requirements, and promo codes can change checkout totals. We include confirmed mandatory add-ons and clearly leave other conditions for verification.

FAQ

Domain price search FAQ

These answers match the calculations and data behavior used on this page, so you can verify the details before buying.

Which registrars does TLDScope currently compare?

TLDScope currently compares domain prices from NameSilo, Dynadot, Name.com, and GoDaddy. More registrars will be added after their pricing fields, fees, and data reliability have been reviewed.

What fees are included in domain price results?

TLDScope shows registration, renewal, and transfer prices for standard domains. When a registrar lists an ICANN fee separately, we add it to the comparable total and show the breakdown. Taxes, membership rules, coupons, and premium-domain pricing are confirmed at checkout.

Why can renewal cost much more than registration?

Some registrars use first-year promotions to attract new customers and restore the regular renewal rate in year two. TLDScope therefore includes 3-year and 5-year ownership costs instead of ranking only by the introductory price.

How are 3-year and 5-year ownership costs calculated?

For a standard new registration, the estimate is the first-year payable price plus later annual renewal prices. A 3-year estimate adds two renewals; a 5-year estimate adds four. Transfer prices are kept separate.

How is the TLD price list different from a specific domain search?

The TLD list contains manually maintained public prices for standard domains. Searching a complete domain queues registrar API checks to confirm availability and any premium price for that specific name.

Should I choose a registrar based only on the lowest price?

Not always. Also review privacy protection, DNSSEC, two-factor authentication, domain lock, payment methods, support, and the transfer-out process. When prices are close, security and management quality often matter more.
